Meet Our Speakers

Keynote: Eddie Farah

The Current State of Concussion in Sport

With more than 14 years of elite-level experience as Head Physiotherapist for both the NSW State of Origin team and the South Sydney Rabbitohs, Eddie Farrah has been at the forefront of sports medicine in Australia. His deep involvement in high-stakes, high-impact environments has given him an unparalleled perspective on how concussion plays out on the field and behind the scenes.

In this compelling keynote, Farrah cuts through the theoretical to deliver a candid, practical look at how concussion is recognised, managed, and too often misunderstood in professional sport. Drawing on real-world case studies and years of sideline decision-making, he explores the current protocols, pressures, and pitfalls involved in dealing with head injuries.

Keynote: Dr Peter Brukner

Evidence-Based Advances in Concussion Treatment and Prevention

Dr Peter Brukner OAM is one of Australia’s most respected sports physicians, with a career spanning elite sport, academia, and clinical leadership. He has served as Head of Sports Medicine at Liverpool FC, Chief Medical Officer for the Australian Olympic Team, and team doctor for both the Australian National Cricket Team and the Socceroos.

Dr Brukner is currently Professor of Sports Medicine at La Trobe University, where he is also the Foundation Chair of the La Trobe Sport and Exercise Medicine Research Centre.

In this keynote session, Dr Brukner draws on decades of frontline experience and the latest clinical research to explore evidence-based advances in the treatment and prevention of concussion. Attendees will gain practical, actionable strategies – tailored for medical professionals, allied health staff, and those working at all levels of sport.

Guest Speaker: Michael Lipman

Michael is a former international rugby player who earned ten test caps for England and played at the top level with Bath Rugby, Bristol, and the Melbourne Rebels. Having sustained more than thirty diagnosed concussions during his career, he shares his story in the memoir Concussion, co-written with his wife Frances, offering a deeply personal perspective on the long-term impacts of head injuries. Michael is also a proud ambassador for the Australian CTE Biobank, helping to raise awareness and support vital research into concussion and brain injury.

He also contributed to the Australian Institute of Sport’s Concussion and Brain Health Position Statement (2023).
